Stress is becoming a modern day epidemic, and a recent Lifeline stress poll found that 1 in 2 Australians are so stressed it can make them sick.  Our stress levels continue to rise each year, with an alarming 93% of Australians feeling stressed last year, including 60% of our 16 to 19 year olds!

We all go through sadness and hard times, but if you are finding that this is constant or is starting to change the way you live your life, it’s important to speak up.  Many people are embarrassed to seek treatment from their GP for any mental issues they may be experiencing, but it is the same as getting treated for a sore leg or any other physical problem, and we don’t have a problem seeking treatment for that!

Apart from your GP or health professional,  there are some natural remedies that can assist with calming minor stresses:

1)       If your blood glucose levels are stable that can help stabilise your mood, so try to eat low GI foods and protein with every meal.

2)      Nervine herbs can help sooth, calm and nourish the nervous system...try a tea made from Passionflower

3)      Prolonged stress can exhaust the adrenal glands.  Supportive tonics such as Asian Ginseng can help.

4)      Licorice is an excellent stress buster, but avoid if you also suffer from high blood pressure.

It is important that you seek medical advice before trying any herbal supplements, particularly if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or have any chronic medical conditions
